Classroom policies and expectations
I reserve the right to change a policy if it will help students learn more effectively (Updated as of 8-12-18)
General:
- Students who arrive to class after the bell has rung and without a pass are considered late.
- NO GUM! You may have a snack as long as it's not distracting to others. Water bottles are a good idea!
- You do not need to ask to use the bathroom or get a drink as long as you don't abuse this privilege. Take a pass located near the door and sign out.

Homework/Make-up work:
Grading:
- We will follow the Guajome Park Academy Homework Policy.
- If/When homework is assigned, it is due the next day at the beginning of class.
- If you are absent, you have one extra day for each day you were absent to make up work.
- Copies of notes and handouts can be all be found on my website and copied to your drive. If you missed notes, please copy them into your workbook.
- If you can't find what you need online or need help, email me. I will almost always respond if I get your email at a reasonable time!
- Homework is graded on completion. The purpose of homework is practice. We will go over homework in class so students can ask questions and learn from their own mistakes.
- Students who are absent on the day of a test or quiz will be expected to schedule a time to make it up as soon as possible.
- Extenuating circumstances such as family emergencies or illness will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Grading:
- You are here to learn! Please focus on learning and not how many points something is worth!
- We will use the Guajome Language Department 4 point rubric. Read more here.

Culture and Community Participation (CCP)
One goal of Spanish class is to grow and develop as globally aware and respectful communicators in Spanish. To achieve this, the language department asks that all students complete one (1) CCP project per grading period. Here is the complete list of what is available.

Classroom Conduct and Behavioral Expectations
1) Do your best to speak in Spanish when I speak to you in Spanish and during activities.
2) We will follow all school policies as they are outlined in the student handbook.
3) Students will be seated and ready to begin class with all necessary materials by the time the bell rings.
4) Please write your first and last name on all papers!
5) It is my hope that we will do lots of interactive (and sometimes silly!) activities that require work in partners or small groups. I ask that students actively participate while maintaining a respectful volume. However, when students are asked to work individually, it is expected that they will do so. Of course, when working individually, students may ask the teacher for help.
**6) Students will treat all members of the class with respect and compassion by actively listening to classmates when they speak, avoiding side conversations, and appropriately responding to class discussion. Appropriate response includes waiting for one person to finish speaking before the next person begins. As a class, we will be sensitive that our words and actions may affect each others’ feelings. Disrespectful language and/or put-downs will not be tolerated. Additionally, as we discuss different cultures and ways of life, I expect that students will approach conversation with an open mind and avoid making quick judgments. Respect is my most important expectation. This also applies to our student/teacher relationship.
The consequences for choosing not to follow the above expectations include the following:
I look forward to an excellent year together!
¡Espero que tengamos un año excelente!
