Classroom policies and expectations
I reserve the right to change a policy if it will help students learn more effectively (Updated as of 8-3-18)
General:
- Students who arrive to class after the bell has rung and without a pass are considered late.
- NO GUM! You may have a snack as long as it's not distracting to others. Water bottles are a good idea!
- You do not need to ask to use the bathroom or get a drink as long as you don't abuse this privilege. Take a yellow pass located near the door.

Homework/Make-up work:
Solution 2: Come in before school or at lunch and print.
Solution 3: Email me before class.
Grading:
- Students are expected to show up to class with an electronic or printed copy of any work assigned while they were absent. All work can be printed off this website or copied into your Google Drive. You will have one extra day to complete it, but you must bring the paper to class. I will not give out extra copies unless special circumstances apply.
- Solution 1: Open the file and write your answers on a separate sheet of paper.
Solution 2: Come in before school or at lunch and print.
Solution 3: Email me before class.
- If you can't find what you need online or need help, email me. I will almost always respond if I get your email at a reasonable time!
- Homework is graded on completion. The purpose of homework is practice. We will go over homework in class so students can ask questions and learn from their own mistakes.
- Students who are absent on the day of a test or quiz will be expected to schedule a time to make it up as soon as possible.
- Extenuating circumstances such as family emergencies or illness will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Grading:
- You are here to learn! Please focus on learning and not how many points something is worth!
- You will receive a rubric any time a large project is assigned.
- From time to time, you may have a pop-quiz. I use these to see what you have learned, which is different than what you have studied. It is not meant to punish you or your grade.
- Each student starts out with 20 "Daily Preparation" points each quarter. If you always come to class prepared, you keep those points. If you forget homework, don't have supplies, or have an uncharged Chromebook, you will lose a point for each occurrence. These points cannot be earned back.
Classroom Conduct and Behavioral Expectations
1) Do your best to speak in Spanish when I speak to you in Spanish and during activities.
2) We will follow all school policies as they are outlined in the student handbook.
3) Students will be seated and ready to begin class by the time the bell rings.
4) Students will attend class on a daily basis, arriving on time with all materials necessary for that day’s class.
5) Please write your first and last name on all papers!
6) It is my hope that we will do lots of interactive (and sometimes silly!) activities that require work in partners or small groups. I ask that students actively participate while maintaining a respectful volume. However, when students are asked to work individually, it is expected that they will do so. Of course, when working individually, students may ask the teacher for help.
**7) Students will treat all members of the class with respect and compassion by actively listening to classmates when they speak, avoiding side conversations, and appropriately responding to class discussion. Appropriate response includes waiting for one person to finish speaking before the next person begins. As a class, we will be sensitive that our words and actions may affect each others’ feelings. Disrespectful language and/or put-downs will not be tolerated. Additionally, as we discuss different cultures and ways of life, I expect that students will approach conversation with an open mind and avoid making quick judgments. Respect is my most important expectation. This also applies to our student/teacher relationship.
The consequences for choosing not to follow the above expectations include the following:
I look forward to an excellent year together!
¡Espero que tengamos un año excelente!
